Stepping into the ‘real world’

As most know, I’ve just finished my final year exams. Results were released last Friday, and I’m really happy with it. Was worried sick before that, coz I was getting news of other ppl’s results. And I thought I wouldn’t do as good as them seeing that I did not really study 24/7. I was half gaming, half studying during exam periods!! But thanx to Geoff, he actually barred me from playing games, was like 5-6hrs of studies, 2-3hrs of games, which was reasonably good.

Everyone was pretty happy with their results, LLJ even burst into tears, tears of happiness of course. We had a mini celebration on Friday, well actually, we’ve been celebrating since Wednesday, before the interview + release of results. We were just taking turns to cook for each other, and Friday was my day. Had everyone over my place, had some really nice dinner,  teriyaki chicken + sushi + onigiri + tamagoyaki.. And on Sunday, headed over to Geoff’s parents’ place for Sunday dinner, and got £20 + a very lovely card from Geoff’s parents ^^).

And that’s that for the celebration bit. As for now, I’m just in placement under Brewlab. Lots of works to do, everyone was like, ‘Wow, u’re gonna be a bz girl this summer’. Oh well, I don’t really mind tbh, rather than just staying at home, I rather spend some time w/ yeasts + learn some stuff off Keith. I’m in the progress of completing my CV as well.. I know.. I should have finished it like months ago, but I didn’t want to start it seeing that I didn’t have any proper results. Doubt any companies here would accept result which I obtained back in Malaysia. So what’s this placement about. It’s basically continuation from Marie’s project, the previous placement student. I’m pretty much enjoying it, altho it’s kinda quiet in the lab, w/o the bunch of pasar malam peeps =p.

After this placement, it’s real world time! Gotta step into the society n look for a new job! UH! Do i really want that? xD! Well  don’t think I have a choice eh, seeing that I wanna take my PhD.. so ye.. gotta work hard..

So that’s it really, nothing much happened lately, apart from academic point of view. I haven’t been anywhere YET, will prolly travel to Alton Towers some time next month. Mom is coming here on the 5th! Woohoo! and yup.. gtg now, work xD! toodles

おはようございます!

rainbow_boat.jpg
WooT! My first rainbow sighting in England \(*T▽T*)/

Good morning! A break for me at last, I have been working from 9am to 6pm from Monday - Friday lately, project, assessments bla bla. Anyway, despite that, I still have like two reports due next two weeks.. So gonna work on them now ;D toodles. Oh, by the way, Geoff bough GH3, with the guitaR! v(≧∇≦)v I was basically glued to it yesterday ^^)v. So much better playing this game with the guitar, back then I played GH1 & GH2 with controller =.-, u know la, hardly anyone buy original games in Malaysia =p

K, off I go to make myself some breakfast before working o(^o^o)o(^o^)o(o^o^)o

Cleaning/Stocking-up day

As usual, we spent Saturday to tidy up the mess, stocked up food supplies etc etc. Headed to Durham coz Geoff needed to grab his university files from his parents’ place, and we dropped by Brewers Fayre Restaurant in Broomside Park for dinner. Very poshie restaurant like Victoria Station in KL, prolly posher.

brewers-frayer.jpg

I had Haddock + new potatoes + salad, and Geoff had lamb + potatoes + nachos. My plate cost about £8, and his cost bout £12. Come to think of it, £8 = RM56, which is probably about RM20 more expensive than Manhattan’s Fish Market. Isn’t too bad, I’d say but orange juice was whoopie £2. Sorry no pictures of what we ordered ;p as you can see Geoff’s mobile wasn’t doing a good job in taking larger pictures and I left my mobile in the car.

After dinner, we went to Tesco, bought lots of stuff, 8xpork sirloin for £5, 4xchicken thighs & 4xchicken drumsticks for £3, 2pieces of salmon for £4, washing tablets, bleach, containers, milk, brie cheese, cookies, fish&chips+toad in the holex3+curry rice for £4 kitchen towels, aluminium foil, orange juice, apple juice, DVDs, cough syrup etc etc. I have fallen ill again, this is the 2nd time in like 3months! I couldn’t sleep all night, coughing was keeping me up.

cough-syrup.jpg

I hope with the power of this cough syrup, I’d get some deep sleep tonight.

messy.jpg

Back at home, see that pile of laundry, it’s gone now! We were out of washing tablets, so it was piled up in the living room waiting to be thrown into the washing machine.

board.jpg

Geoff’s to-do-list since last week.

jigsaw.jpg

1000x pieces of jigsaw puzzle, bought in Christmas season, took us 1month+ to finish it ;p

soup.jpg

Mom sent me packets of herbs last year. Took 2 1/2hrs to boil this soup, herbs+chicken. I had about 4bowls now. Hope my immune system would be strengthen-hate getting sick here, the air is too dry and it’s tickling my throat.

hoover.jpg

We bought a new bagless hoover from Currys, for £40. There are lots of fancy hoovers in the store costing up to £200! I needa bring my mom there when she comes, some hoovers look so futuristic, some sorta R2D2-ish design ;D

Good morning world!

morning.jpg

7.58am and it’s about time to head to school. Weather has been tolerable lately, breezy and a little chilly, doesn’t feel like winter. Seems like we missed the winter, and we’re heading into spring.. global warming O.o?

snow_sunderland.jpg

Picture courtesy of Sheryl LLJIt snowed a little in Sunderland the other day, but not enough for me to make a snowman. The days after were hit with strong wind =.- I almost got blown away, never have I lost to the wind before ゛(ノ><)ノ

Chinese New Year is around the corner, going to miss the celebration back in homecountry (ノ_<。)うっうっうっ. There’s going to be a celebration in the Stadium of Light on Wednesday, I hope it’ll make me feel at home (^_^)Mom and sis sent me some CNY gifts v(^o^ )ー~) ニヤ, well not really some, it’s actually a lot! 25kg of stuff! ( ;°o°)/

biscuits.jpg

Mom actually sent 5 boxes of CNY biscuits - nutty biscuits, pineapple tarts, 2x ngaku & white biscuit(don’t know its name) but Geoff finished a box of ngaku & white biscuit.

scarves.jpg

My sister knitted these (⌒.-)=★ Love these scarves, keep me really warm, there’s another 1 missing in the pic, Geoff was using it and left it on the couch.

stock.jpg

Jeng-jeng, my food supply! Lots of spicy Korean instant noodles, some cans of gravy granules, herbs, sweet&sour sauce, miso soup cubes, seaweed, cookies etc. This can last me probably 2-3months. That box of homepride flour has been there since Oct of last year, ;p Geoff bought it coz he wanted me to bake cake.

I<3 those Korean noodles, it makes me sweat every time I have them-good to keep me warm! v(≧∇≦)v

Happy new year - 2008 - The end of my WoW-ing days - The rebrth of my Jdrama days

Recently, time seems to be zooming ahead in like seconds < am I making sense here? =p. It didn’t feel the same when I was in high school/college. Time went by slowly back then, I was hoping today was tomorrow for like every single day. Right now, no way, I want today to be yesterday… We’re already into the 2nd day of 2008.. eek so fast o.o, My winter vacation is going to end on the 10th, 3weeks vacation seems too short for me =.- The worst part is that I have 4reports due in this month. Eek.. completed 1, 3more to go, yosh!

Another good news, I’ve decided to stop playing WoW. I actually wanted to get into Black Temple, but meh, gradually losing interest in this game, especially with dramas going around in my guild. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good guild, till leadership *ploorrp* went down. No appreciation to the raid leader, whines/complaints by ppl who get swapped out ie loot whores and they actually mentioned a couple of times ‘progression > loots’ *ya rite*. Just felt totally heartbreaking when I’ve poured in time and effort and even money into trying to bring a guild which were doin Karazhan into end-game raiding, and when they got there, and got enough raiders, they just entirely put u aside. Totally speechless, but that’s the bad thing bout game, conflicts and stuff. Prolly a good time for me to focus more on studies seeing that I have like 5months more till my finals. Promised to make my family proud, and I will try my best. So if anyone is interested in buying a WoW account with a 2100+healing priest/12k HP PvP & SSC/TK prot warrior/Full S2 PvP gears, let me know ;D

Recently been spending time playing Xbox 360 since I don’t have any other games to play. Hey, work and no play makes Jup a dull girl. 360 is rather cool, but I just hate using joystick to play FPS =.- Been playing all sorts of ol-sega/arcade-games ie metal slug ;D. Could be quite frustrating at times playing with Geoff -aka world-champion- He’s like perfectionist in games, where else me, play-relax-give up. I was bored just now, so I went to google his name. Boy he was indeed rather famous in the xbox-live-world. Ppl were actually missing him when he retired o.O Where did Urgamanix Go?

The first and most prominent ‘Gamerscore Champions’ were ST TheKing (aka Tom Shaw) and Urgamanix (aka Geoff Wade). The rivalry between these two players was watched closely by the community, earning them media playtime in the form of interviews and dicussions on many gaming forums.

Shortly after, a form of cheating called ‘gamesave downloading’ become more and more widespread around the community, a process in which a player downloads other player’s saves in order to instantly gain Gamerscore without playing the game. The most notorious cheater was RANCE6, who gained the highest Gamerscore after many of the top players quit, including Urgamanix and ST TheKing.

=D Wish I could be like him, play 24/7 + get good results in exams. I wanna get my hands on Wii, seems like a really cute console. But it’s been out of stock in UK for AGES! Yes I mean aGES!. WTH, I should prolly go back to Malaysia and grab some and sell it over here to earn extra £$. Ps3 on the other hand has been piling up waiting for business. What’s wrong o.o?I went over to Geoff’s friend’s place the other day - they owned every single console in the world *applaud*. Played a lil Ps3, seems more like a computer sorta stuff - web browser yadaa yadaa. Motion controller like Wii, not a bad console I’d say. I was hoping to get Guitar Hero III with the guitar, but whoopie £70, a-na, too expensive (/_\) I played GHI, GHII on Ps2, without the guitar, wasn’t as fun as having the guitar obviously. Prolly gonna pop by Dav’s place some time to play it, boy I wish I could stay over in his place for a week or so. Loaded w/ consoles-high end computer-stereo, weet weet.

Oh and, I’m back to Jdorama <3 fast connection. Proposal Daisakusen プロポーズ大作戦 and Kurosagi クロサギwere really good!<3 Yamapi 山下智久~

Can’t stop laughing when he does ‘Hallelujah Chance’ with a little twist in Proposal Daisakusen ;D ;D ;D. Kurosagi was pretty original. Every episode was mainly bout how he swindled for justice - could be boring for some ppl, but not for me, as long as Yamapi plays a part =P Can’t wait to watch the movie, apparently they’re shooting it atm. And of course not forgetting Kimura Takuya’s 木村拓哉 latest drama Karei Naru Ichizoku 華麗なる一族 *double thumbs up*. I took a day to finish all 10eps =p, it’s so intense that I was just basically glued to the screen.

***punch that black bitch seated on the right***

opz 1am off to bed I go to play Miami Nights on my mobile. ^^)v Nitey-nite

Sick before Christmas

For the past 3days Geoff & I have been lying on the bed, yes we’ve both fallen ill at the same time. It’s probably becoz we were caught under the rain after dinner on Saturday + the amount of chocolates that we took.. eek. Anyway, we’re both feeling much better now, fit to get back to work. Geoff brought me to Dynasty Buffet in Durham on Saturday for some Chinese buffet. Food was… well made for the English =p nothing like what we have back in Asia but nonetheless it was still worth the money. £9 eat all u can, with over 30choices, that’s pretty damn good I’d say. My favourite dish was this crispy sweetened seaweed. I don’t know how they made it, but I’m guessing they just dump a whole lot of sugar on the seaweed and fried them slowly. Out of the 30+ dishes served there, only about 10% were vegetable based. Others were like black pepper chicken/beef, mushroom beef/chicken, ginger beef/chicken + lots of spring rolls, they even served fried spring roll wraps, ewk.. just fried wraps w/ nothing in it.. ugh.. Geoff likes it tho =p

We’ve been putting up Christmas decorations bits by bits, spent a lot on Christmas stuff as well, think we spent like £180 the other day… ugh.. Christmas. Anyway, we’re working on the decos, not too great yet, need more snowsprays

xmas2.jpg

Brand new Christmas tree is up. Well, ignore the cheapy legs and pathetic mini angel on top of the tree. I chose the angel, thot it looked cute and fluffy, but it didn’t go so well with the tree.

xmas.jpg

Now, walaa the real Christmas tree, Geoff replaced the angel with the squishy boink-ish star, hm.. looks a little silly imo.

xmas1.jpg

We’re working on the balcony. We are planning to fill this part with all the decos we have, seeing that this bit of the room faces the main street, everyone will be seeing our windows when entering the street ;)

windows.jpg

I printed a snowflake story on this window, *snowman was angry of the x’mas tree which grew in front of his house blocking the feng shui, so he took a broom out n swept the tree off =P*

clock.jpg

The wall clock needs some deco too, well Geoff said that.

We stopped working on the decos for now, seeing that we’re both ill. Wind is extremely strong outside, and I have to crawl to school tomorrow. My throat still hurts, and I’m still having a slight headache, hope everything will be fine by tomorrow morning. It’s getting late so I’m off to bed.

Alley cat! meow~

Yes! it’s ALLEY CAT! Thanx bro! =D Geoff downloaded the ol’ DOS game for me on his com, it didn’t work on my computer, prolly coz’ I’m using vista. Boy o boy, that game brings back memories. I remembered being pretty good in it, but yesterday when I tried playing, boy I was crap! I couldn’t even jump into windows! grRrrr

Anyway, cut the game bit, Jarod tagged me o.O second time I’m doing this, here goes :-

The rules are as follow:-

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names & links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

  1. Ever since staying in the UK, I’ve been shopping for stuff < £5, buy 1 free 1 stuff, or even crazily searching high and low for FoC stuff! I’ve never done such things when I was back in Malaysia! Christ!
  2. I felt snow for the very first time at 8.35am on the 23rd of Nov 2007!
  3. I want to try this when I go home :

  1. < this is actually 4. My university screwed up my registry name, so I’m known as Yee Phang here =.-
  2. <5. I took 1day to figure out 5 facts about myself….

Off to study xD

Study + Play = Me

Just downloaded L’Arc~en~Ciel’s  latest single, My heart draws a dream.. was pretty good, but like what Geoff said, it’s the same old typical laruku-sorta song. O and I heard from my friend that they’re going to perform in Mexico..O.o GrR! When r they going to perform where I am! I waited for 3years when I was back in Malaysia, and now I’m all the way in the other side of the globe hoping to see them perform here, but no! =( o well, one day I’ll step foot into Japan I guess.

Ppl who knows me know that I’m pretty much into concerts, well of course not just hoolaa-beeloo’s concert.. I only attend quality concerts =p cough, ahem.. bands that I like, and lucky me, most of my favourite bands are English bands =D. yeye, I know I’m here to study.. not to enjoy.. >.<; but hey, all work and no play makes JU a dull girl! agree? Next week, there’s a tour by the University to Beamish.. where the hell is that? Beamish is North England’s open air museum, located in county Durham. It costs £8 to go for gold-card members, £12 to be a member. Well, I’m intending to go but I haven’t paid for my card.. reason? Coz my damn cash/debit card hasn’t arrived ie I-am-broke. I wonder what’s taking Barclays so long to send my card over.. geezz..

I haven’t been taking lunch in quite a while, prolly for like a couple of days. Imagine if Geoff wasn’t here.. O.o Juppie would have died in starvation.. >.<;; + I need to stop shopping for clothes xD. I’ ve been grabbing cheap autumn/winter wear lately.. like £3 for a top.. £20 for a coat or so.. The other day Geoff brought me to Next… Next is like the branded boutique here, unlike the one in KL. Well, u know me.. I never looked at price when shopping in KL.. had my dear..cough.. mom by my side.. =X and I bought a long sleeve shirt + jacket.. shirt cost £12 O.o and jacket was like £50 or so… That’s like RM400 or so.. meh still cheaper than winter clothings in KL. Then the following day Sheryl brought me to Peacocks, saw long sleeve shirts there for £6 ea! half of what I bought! damn… =/ It’s like, I complained so much bout £4 lunch meal but not £12 shirt..bleh >.<

No more shopping for me, unless I feel the need to.. since winter isn’t here yet, I do not know how cold it could get in January. Probably need to wrap myself up or hibernate at home.. So that’s that bout the fun bit.. Now the study bit.. I’ve been studying quite seriously despite just being my 3rd week in uni. Im gonna start gathering info for my project. We were given few titles for our final year project. I submitted the titles which interest me to Keith. Hope I get what I want.. Btw, Keith is my personal tutor/lecturer. Well, if I was still in KL I’d prolly address him as Dr. Keith. But apparently it’s weird to address ppl politely here, so Keith it is. Even when addressing Geoff’s parents.. I used to call them Mr/Mrs Wade… *no such thing as auntie/uncle here*.. they were like, na just call us by our names… hm.. feels weird.. but I shall go w/ the flow eh.

Woops, Geoff is almost home, gonna prepare dinner now. I’ve been having dinner at around 5-6pm lately =D healthy eh! Gonna make sushi tonight! Ganbatte to myself. Toodles~

Pre-departure preparation pt.2

Thank god I do not have to reapply my student visa. Today was “hell-er” than yesterday. Woke up at 6am, rushed to the embassy, got there about 8am. The queue was massive and messy, ppl who got there ealier ended up getting later numbers, and ppl who got there later ended up with earlier numbers. At 8.32am, the number given to me was 64, and at that time, the officers were serving upto the 3rd person. So ye.. 3————–>64, long way.

So I was busy getting myself out of the crowd, at the same time I sensed someone was looking at me, well I looked back.. I was telling myself, hm.. she looked like Syuen’s mom.. so I searched around for sight of Syuen or her bro. Nope, not there.. A couple of minutes later, I saw my mom talking to that lady, and it turned out it was indeed Syuen’s mom with June Heng, Syuen’s bro. Well, I’ve not seen June Heng in like forever, so he has pretty much changed, can’t blame me for not recognising him =p

Syuen has finished her accountancy degree, and is back working. Wow! She’s definitely something, I guess Syuen is the earliest from my year to graduate. Now it’s her brother’s turn to go to Leeds to pursue his Engineering degree. Hey, there’s where Geoff studied. So anyways, after grabbing our numbers, we went to the Ground floor, kopitiam to chat a little. The good ol times. Then I went back up to the 3rd floor, the waiting auditorium. Mom left me alone there coz she needed to settle some banking chores. It was about 9.30am at that time. I waited till 12pm and I was called up to wait again at the 19th floor.

You’d expect Brit embassy to be something grand like the American Embassy. But sorry to dissappoint you, no. The visa application office is no larger than my A’lvls classroom. There were 4counters, 3counters were serving us - 1 specially for the government sponsored students. That 3 counters which were serving us, somehow turned to 2counters a while later, so the processing moved to the pace of a pregnant tortoise.

That room was so small and freaking noisy, kids. There were this bunch of ignorant kids, making a lot of noise & playing deckcards in the embassy. So this naggy security woman came in and sounded them, asking them to lower their voices and no gambling cards. Those ignorant kids just kept babbling away. Well, I’m not annoyed with them talking, but their ignorant behaviour pissed the security lady off, and she just kept complaining and sounding them. That’s the last thing you would want to hear from anyone near you, and sadly I was sitting near those kids.

At 4.15pm, the display showed 63. I was like, yes it’s me next. I waited till 4.40pm, nope.. still 63. The officer who went for lunch came back, and he started off with 65. I was like #$@!@!#!~ where’s 64, so I went up to the naggy security lady and told her, n she did the 6-4 hand sign to the officer. He was like “okok, I’ll attend to her next”. So I was like, “ok next is me”. But! the display then showed 66 to another counter. I was like >.>.. The officer who just came back from lunch could have just informed his colleague to press for 64 instead of 66. Inefficient!!!!!

So I pretty much waited longer than I needed to. When my turn was called, I was pretty nervous. The officer was pretty much checking every single bit of my documents. When it came to Geoff’s letter.

He went

So you got a place to stay?

Yep.

What’s your relationship with this mr.

He’s my boyfriend.

O, icic, how did you guys meet?

Erm.. when I was a college student (I took as if he asked when I met Geoff. Officer was being too busybody)

Ah nice.

That’s the last thing in my list. After all those time I’ve spent in that darn building since 8am I’d like everything to go in a zap, and do not fancy casual conversation. After submission, I had to wait for my turn for the biometric processing. That took bout like.. 45m or mayber more, I don’t remember. Time flies when there’s someone to chat with. I was busy chatting with this girl beside of me who’s heading to Reading. She did A’lvls in Taylor’s as well, so she was telling me bout my ex-lecturers there. And wow, Miss Annie gave birth last year. That amazed me for sure.. Miss Annie the hip hop lecturer who kept teaching the girls to have control of husbands’ incomes…. I definitely never expected her to have kids.  But hey, I’m happy for her, and hope all the best to her and her family.

So, in the biometric room, all I did was placed my fingers on some green scanny pad and took a picture. And walaa, visa collection on Monday. Right after hours in “prison” I rushed off to have my haircut + treatment. I wanted to dye my hair red, mom said no.. =(

At the hair saloon, mom was flirting with this red-headed guy, their flirtatous conversation was pretty amusing. And there’s this guy, called Ah Seng. Mom was joking with him so much about me. She was like “hey lengchai, I brought my daughter to see you” So Ah Seng started talking to me. geez, thanx mom.

He started off saying that I’m pretty tall for a girl, and I told him I’m 170cm. and he seemed freaked out. Then he was like o you should try becoming a model, Malaysian models are short. And I just gave him a smile. Then he wanted to know my age, but my mom slipped into our conversation by just saying that I’m younger. Then he went “well younger could be 1month, 10 years, 20years..” Then I told him I’m 21. He was like, wow, I thought you were like 17-19.. >.>geez? a compliment or did I look immature.

Then he went asking, are you working or student. I told him I’m a student. Then he asked me do you like to study. I was thinking…erm..? weird question.. then I answered, well I get lazy at times. He wanted to have my number, and I couldn’t lie to him saying I didn’t have a mobile when my mobile was in my hand, so I just told him I’m going to overseas next week, so this number will be terminated. Then he went ooo.. overseas.. like UK-Aus-USA.. I answered UK.

During some breaks in between, he actually went to my mom asking “hey mother-in-law can I fly to UK with your daughter” my mom answered w/ laughter “ha, her bf would kick you”.  So throughout my 2-3hrs hair treatment session there, I was pretty quiet and couldn’t wait for everything to end. At 8pm, another guy appeared who turned out to be Ah Seng’s friend. Ah Seng was telling his friend, bout my age/height.. I was like.. OMG.. let me go.. right when my hair treatment was done, I gave them a quick goodbye and zoomed off to buy my luggage bag at the opposite shop.

Out for 12hrs, super tiring, bed now.. zz nite

My apartment

So, I sent my diagram to Geoff, and obviously he complained a lot.

My home

He was complaining that the wardrobe capacity allocated for him was too small, stain on his desk n bla bla bla. =p And what’s with English houses. Just 1 toilet O.o? How if both needed to use it at the same time. We gotta do rock, paper, scissors >.> And huge empty lobby for no reason which will be turned into a dining hall. Sofa facing cabinets instead of the TV. I guess the cabinets are nicer to watch ey. And the top left, the black-hole, if you’re thinking it’s a trash hole, nop, it’s a pillar apparently. A pillar in a middle of a compartment, that’s what I called weird. The weirdest bit is that there are seats around it. lol Pole-dance anyone?

Here’s a pic of the apartment which I just got it off Geoff.

So that pole dance bit is the extended part. And I just found out that there’s only 1 lot per floor. Unlike apartments here, bout 8 lots per floor.  So the lot that we got has an extended area. Pretty sexy eh. And behind the building is the sea. =O sunrise n sunset xD! YEY! Hm.. but why is the frontyard so messy.. =/
